Sandyford Hall Residents Association update

Dear Resident,

Sandyford Hall Residents’ Association (SHRA) committee are volunteers giving our time to consider issues that affect all of us. On an ongoing basis we review and monitor local planning applications, we submit planning observations on behalf of SHRA, we support Fernleigh with their judicial review (Ironborn development), and we report into the local policing forum on local issues. Recent activities also include the planting of 20 new cherry trees at the front of the estate, the installation of a yellow box at the estate entrance, the replanting of native hedgerows and regular clean up days. We really appreciate your interest and constructive engagement with us on our local issues.

The SHRA committee recently discussed some proposals to improve and maximise the potential of the amenities in our estate. We considered ways to improve the biodiversity of the green spaces and improve access to our recreational areas. Please see attached some details of these proposals. Some are minor and some are more significant.

Our first step was to meet with our local authority (DLR) to present our main ideas and get their feedback on the viability of these proposals and possible grants or funding available. Some of our local councillors also attended this meeting in April and they were in favour of the four suggestions we presented. These were:

·        Repair of the sink holes on back green

·        A perimeter path on the front green to allow access for all to green space all year round

·        Installation of a wayfinder board at the estate entrance to local places of interest

·        A path on back green to absorb high volumes of pedestrian traffic from Belarmine

This meeting is called a Deputation and it is a mechanism available to all residents’ associations to discuss ideas for improving their area with the local authority.

It is important that all residents know that no actions have been agreed with DLR. Nothing will be progressed without the support of the residents of Sandyford Hall. In addition, there is no guarantee that any funding will be available to implement any of these proposals (particularly the more expensive items) in the short, medium or long-term.

The committee now want to hear what you think.

Please take a look at the notes attached that itemise the issues identified and proposals. The minutes from the Deputation are also attached for your information. Your thoughts and feedback are important and should be emailed to the SHRA at sandyfordhall@gmail.com by 30 June 2024. Only correspondence received through this official channel will be considered as feedback. We will collate and review feedback and let you know the next steps in due course.

Also attached is our recent Committee meeting minutes, FYI.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,

SHRA committee.
