There are two types of political representation in every region in Ireland – Dáil elections for TD’s at a regional level, and local elections for County Councillors who sit on the Council and sit in County Hall in Dun Laoghaire.
For local elections the Glencullen-Sandyford LEA (Local Electoral Area) comprises of 7-seats within the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCoCo) and is comprised of around 25,350 electorate (voters).
For Dáil elections Sandyford sits in the Dublin-Rathdown constituency and comprises a population of around 94,472 (2016 census) and will become a 4-seat constituency (from 3) at the next general election.
Residents Associations work with local Councillors at various levels to seek support, guidance and funding for projects within their area, with the Councillors acting as sponsors at the planning, design and funding level. Many of our Councillors engage at a personal level taking time out to support estate cleanups, providing time and guidance on planning questions and make themselves generally available to the residents. This support works both ways as they ask for our support at the polls when they seek re-election.
Voting
Everybody who is over 18 years of age, is resident in Ireland and is registered to vote, may do so at local level in Ireland. For Dáil elections you must also be and Irish citizen. Further information is available on citizensinformation.ie.
You can very quickly check, edit and register to vote for elections at voter.ie, and we’d encourage everybody who is resident in the area to do so.
